Streaming Networks offers an OEM ready Personal Video Recorder (PVR) reference design, independent of a service provider, for standalone and PC based systems supporting Hard Disk (HDD) as well as Compact Disc (CD).

The PVR application uses a variant of MPEG-1 video technology, to achieve near DVD video quality, yet retaining ISO compliance and MPEG1 layer II as the audio codec. The CD’s thus recorded can be played by commercially available VCD/DVD players and even PC. The application has the provision for automatic or manual scanning and locking TV frequencies. Recording and playback on the HDD lets you watch programs at your convenience allowing you to pause, rewind and instantaneous replay of your choice scenes.

Video input can come from a camcorder, broadcast program, VCD/DVD player or VHS tape. Audio input can come from CD player, cassette tape, DVD or PC. The software stack does the video & audio compression/decompression, program stream multiplexing of the video and audio, system control functions and recording using a single PNX-1302, VLIW processor on Streaming Networks PVR-1302 board with IDE, USB, UART, I2C, TV Tuner interfaces and Flash.
